Conference, July 19th-23rd 2006 in Bochum

European Mining History, 19th and 20th Centuries

This ESTER seminar will try to convene research on the social history of mining that presently is under progress at different places in Europe. So far, "social history" is understood to comprehend the many different aspects that are connected to the history of mining: business history, the study of coal and ore field societies, migration, ethnic diversity and conflict, miners' strikes and politics. Research students from universities of the ESTER network, dealing with mining history outside Europe should feel especially invited. This seminar wishes to especially stimulate incentives and models of coporative social history.

The conference is organized by the Institut für soziale Bewegungen (Institute for social movements) in Bochum / Germany.
